Son of Vice-Chief Justice of Supreme Court was arrested for extortion

The son of the Vice-Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was arrested in Orel, a town 360 km south of Moscow.

The police claim that Vladimir Kalmykov, the oldest son of the Judge Alexander Kalmykov, tried to extort 1 mln roubles (~USD30,000) from a local to secure a favourable outcome of the hearing in the highest judicial instance, Kommersant.ru reports.

According to sources in the law-enforcement agencies Vladimir Kalmykov was caught red-handed taking cash.

Information about the arrest of Karpov-junior has been confirmed by the Department of the Chief Federal Inspector in Orlov Region. The authorities could not comment whether Vladimir Karpov was acting in agreement with someone or on his own initiative.

The official charges have already been pressed. Orlov's district court chaired by the head of the court Tatyana Tarabarova gave sanction to arrest Vladimir Karpov.

Alexander Karpov was born in Orlov region and was the head of the regional court in 1998 - 2004 before he became the Vice-Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Russia.
