Senator loses parental rights

Vladimir Slutsker, a senator and a wealthy man, has lost parental rights over his two children. This ends a bizarre story which started in June 2009 when the senator’s guards did not let Olga Slutsker, his then wife, enter their home. Since then she has not seen her children.

In March 2010, a district court in Moscow ruled that 10-year-old Mikhail and 6-year-old Anna should live with their father, a member of the Federation Council, the Upper House of the Russian Parliament. The decision stated that the mother must be allowed to visit the two children, but the senator ignored her right to do so.

Olga Slutsker filed a claim for termination of her former husband’s parental rights and won. Unless the decision is overruled, Vladimir Slutsker will not see his children again.
