The Judiciary Needs Fresh Blood

‘New people, with experience in various judiciary areas, should join the judiciary', said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. He called the renewal of court officials , including judges, one of the priorities of his program of modernization. In March, at a legal forum in St. Petersburg, he said that ‘even the best possible laws on paper can prove ineffective in practice and remain no more than declarations if we do not have courts that work’.

Medvedev also turned down the idea of setting up special courts for foreign investors. ‘I don't think this would be right. An unbiased, just and effective judiciary is something all citizens, all organizations and all people need,’ the president said.
