Baker & McKenzie Strengthens Finance and Capital Markets Practice in Moscow

Moscow, Russia, 7 September 2012 – Baker & McKenzie has expanded its Finance and Capital Markets practice in the CIS by adding Roy Pearce and Simon H.P. Morgan as partners in the Moscow office.

Roy Pearce has relocated to Moscow from London and has extensive experience working on Russian and CIS capital markets transactions. His move aims to strengthen the Firm’s ability to advise Russian and CIS clients on international listings.

“Although the capital markets remain volatile, we’re seeing increasing activity in Russia, particularly in the debt markets, and I’m optimistic about the longer-term prospects for equity offerings. This is a key high-growth market and we see a lot of opportunity for both IPOs and bond offerings out of the region,” said Mr. Pearce.

Simon H.P. Morgan joins Baker & McKenzie from the Moscow office of a major international law firm. He has a wealth of experience working in Moscow, London and Frankfurt. He specializes in securitization, structured finance, loans and credit facilities, as well as capital markets, with a particular focus on asset-backed structured cross-border emerging markets transactions.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Morgan said: “I am very excited to be joining Baker & McKenzie, an acknowledged leader in the Russia/CIS market, and am immensely looking forward to working with Vladimir and his team and the Firm’s unique network of offices in the CIS. Having recently worked on the establishment of the Raiffeisenbank Russia diversified payment rights program, the first Russian DPR transaction since 2007, I believe that we are seeing the beginnings of an increasing flow of more complex structured transactions in Russia/CIS and am sure that with its experience and resources on the ground Baker & McKenzie is perfectly positioned to assist its clients as the market grows.”

“We are delighted to welcome Roy and Simon into our Finance and Capital Markets practice,” said Vladimir Dragunov, head of Baker & McKenzie’s Moscow Finance and Capital Markets practice. “Their specific focus on equity capital markets, securitization, structured finance and debt transactions as well as general banking matters, resonates very well with our strengths as a practice, as well as our priorities for growth in Moscow and the CIS. Their presence in Moscow will also strengthen our capability in providing English law support for finance and capital markets transactions on the ground in Moscow.”

“Our finance and capital markets practice has had many successes over the years and we are keen to see the practice reaching out to new horizons with the addition of Roy and Simon to our team in Moscow,” said Sergei Voitishkin, CIS managing partner.

Baker & McKenzie has been advising Russian and multinational banks and corporations for decades, and the Moscow office in particular has a long-standing Finance and Capital Markets practice that regularly acts for financial institutions, banks and corporate entities in all types of finance and capital markets transactions. Over recent years Baker & McKenzie has been recommended for legal services in Russia’s finance and capital markets by Chambers, IFLR1000 and Legal 500.
